I don’t lived in the States so i have never used a rental service such as Netflix or Gamefly. Just wanted to know…how is it possible to keep a DVD or game as long as you like with rental services without any form of late fee? How do they earn their money and is it possible to keep the DVD or game for a lifetime (in theory)?

Do you believe that late charge advertising in the video rental industry is meaningless?
I have never understood the meaning of a late charge in the video rental industry. If you rent a movie it is for a set period of time. If you bring it back "late" they charge you for another period of time. Why call it a late fee when it is a rental fee for another time period?
To make a point. Netflix advertises that there is no "late fee". But you must remain a member and pay a monthly charge to keep a video. If you decide to keep your current videos for the rest of your life, you would pay a monthly fee for the rest of your life. Isn’t this the same "cost" as a "late fee"?
I do agree that the cost of the mail vs video store is cheaper. I am just disagreeing with terminology.

Can I hook a new DVD player up to my home theater?
I bought an "all in one" Panasonic home theater system (ie receiver, stereo and DVD are all one unit, not separate components) 5 years ago. Recently the DVD player refuses to play certain commercial disks I get from Netflix or Best Buy–it simply refuses to "spin" and says "Disc Error–No Play." The only fix I’ve been able to discover is that if I play an older movie in its entirety, after the older movie is over, the player will SOMETIMES load the newer movie (Its bizarre–its like the DVD player needs to "warm up" on the older disks first). I’ve tried a disc cleaner to no avail. Anyone have a solution? Alternatively, since the audio still works great (if I can get a disc to actually play), I was wondering if I could buy a new DVD player and somehow connect it to the current home theater system so I still have surround sound without having to buy a whole new system. Is this possible or do I have to buy a whole new system?

How does Netflix online DVD rentals compare to Blockbuster Online Rentals?
I currently have Netflix and wanted to save more money but the website for Blockbuster is down. Does anyone know the prices/plans for Blockbuster online rentals and if anyone can tell me about the service? i.e. How fast and convenient and if anyone thinks it’s worth the $$?
