I have installed a new DVD burner on my PC. When I go to My computer, the icon show it is a smart media card. Everywhere else the computer recognizes it as a DVD Burner… it will play all media and will record all day… It just shows up on my computer as a Smart Media card. because everything seems to be working fine, I guess it’s more of an aggrivation than anything else. Suggestions?
The Drive is an Emprex DVD Dual Layer (16x) I have uninstalled the driver and reinstalled from the manufacturer’s website. Still the same problem.
It is an internal DVD and it’s the one without the card readers in the front…

I have one on my PC and I install 2 pieces (same brand) to my friends PCs.All of them work well.I don’t think it need driver. You should check jumper setting first. If you have a DVD ROM or CD ROM,you set jumper as MASTER & connect to the end of flat cable,DVD BURNER should be SLAVE & connect to middle of flat cable. If DVD BURNER stands alone,it should be MASTER.You need a burning program also. The easiest to use software is Nero6 or Nero7

Uninstall the Driver.(clean start). Download driver at manifactures web site (usually under support). reinstall. Im out of time… i plan to revise this with more detail later… if you can add in info about brand and Model (not serial) Number that would help.
UPDATE:
I am not as familiar with that brand however I have looked at some manuals and have two questions that would clarify the problem. First, Is the drive Internal or External? I saw about 4 external and 6 internal drives made by this company that are 16x. Secondly does the drive have memory card slots in the front? (Sorry for the spelling. Yahoo’s spell checker dosn’t work well)
Update2
This is the first time a DVDROM drive has ever beaten me. I am baffeled and tring to help more at this point would be a waste of time. From here I can only guess at the problem. I think it may be part of the sofware and therefore unfixable. However this is a longshot as I am assuming alot of their software use simialer code for all their drives. I am going to leave the majority of my post as it is so others know what has been tried. I hope that someone else can help you better.
I wish you luck,
