I’ve got an older video camera that is not digital and I can’t transfer video to my computer. When I hook-up the camera to the computer using the USB cord that came with the camera, nothing happens. And when I search the computer for video cameras it doesn’t show up. It’s like the comp doesn’t even read it. I don’t know if there was ever a disc with the camera but if there was it’s long gone.
The camera is a Sony Handycam Hi8. Not sure what year.
What can I do? I really want to edit my videos.

Hi8 is analog. Youneed to get an "analog/digital bridge" like those from Canopus or Pinnacle (Dazzle). USB transfer will not work. That is used for streaming or transferring stills from a memory card only.

if it came with a disk u need to pop it in and install because it needs the drivers to read it and if it didnt come with a disk go to the website and look up the camera model and search for a driver

I have one of those, from 1995, it held mini video tapes, so far the only answer that I ve got on how 2 transfer was they have to be placed in a machine that copies the tape onto disk since the handy cam didnt have actual copying capability or a memory capability like the current digital cameras..You should have seen the size of the early 90s video recorders, they actuaaly held vhs tapes and were the size of bread boxes
