Younger generations seem to be very impressed with the actress and singer, Selena Gomez. She was born July 22, 1992. She was the first cast in Barney as Gianna from 2002 until 2004. She became a favorite in small roles on The Disney Channel including Hannah Montana and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. She got her own recurring role in 2007 until 2012 in the Disney hit, The Wizards of Waverly Place.

Since the series ended, Gomez has been very busy. She released her second album which is doing well and gone on tour. She offered her voice to the animated films The Muppet Movie in 2011 and Hotel Transylvania in 2012. No one that knows her family is surprised that she is an actress or a singer. Her mother is a performer and loved Latino music, which is why Selena got her name after one of the best at that time.

As a young girl, she often watched her mom practice lines and songs for performances. She loved the thrill of being backstage before the events started. She would look up wide-eyed too as her mom was transformed from the mom she knew to the woman that would leave the audience speechless night after night. Other than her mom, her favorite performer is Bruno Mars.

In 2008, Gomez was a driving force of young celebrities promoting political awareness to younger individuals. The goal was to ensure more youth would register to vote when they turned 18. The goal was also to make sure that they realized their voice counted and that they had a duty to pay attention to political issues and make a well-informed decision before they want to the polls.

She also became a spokesperson for UNICEF in 2008. She is the youngest person asked to take on this role. She has traveled to various countries to see first-hand what the challengers are and how to best allocate the funds that UNICEF is able to collect.

In the past year, Selena Gomez has been linked to dating Justin Bieber. It seems to be an on-again and off-again relationship. Her image has also seemed to become edgier with her music career versus her wholesome image on the Disney channel productions. She has spoken out against bullying, stating that it was an ongoing nightmare for her in both junior high and high school.
