@kbcb87 Yeah, Bridges can act. I saw both movies and the new one is better by far. Bridges is also more believable as Rooster.

I saw the new version, and I can honestly say that the line delivery seems more natural coming from Bridges/Damon/Steinfeld

Was never a fan of the original.
Saw 2010’s True Grit today and was blown away at how different the story comes across in the hands of great film makers. Was great.
As for the whole Wayne VS Bridges thing, if you honestly believe Wayne turned in a better performance, i’m afraid nostalgia has a killer grip on you.

@Trotz8bit …… I really don’t think they were thinking of coming close to the original. The story was a good one and deserving of a re-make. But “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence” was an even better storyline than “True Grit” and has yet to be remade……One can only wonder why….

the new movie kills this. so much darker and…grittier!

wow, laughable after seeing the modern Jeff Bridges one, did people actually act in movies in the 60’s? I’ve seen better line reads in community theater

lol the trailer gives away the ending of the movie pretty much. That’s lame.

It is not the acting that is bad, is just the ambient music that sets up a lighter mood for this film. Change the uppity western orchestra music for some darker acoustic guitar or some classic Johnny Cash tunes and this classic movie will make more sense for modern audiences.

For those saying that acting is better now than it was in the ’60s: no. If that were the case, Robert Duvall (who is in this movie) would be out of work now because standards had gotten higher. Or Glen Campbell’s bad acting would have been considered good at the time (it wasn’t).
John Wayne was a great star but he played variations on the same character. But lots of stars do that now.
So no, acting standards have not gotten higher. On the bright side, they haven’t gotten lower either.
