When I am watching a dvd on my notebook, I can barely hear conversation in the movie. I’ve tried using several players with the volume at max level on the player and Windows XP as well. The volume level is great when listening to anything else, just a problem when watching dvds.

Is the dvd store bought or boot leg? Not trying to be funny but some times boot leg movies don’t really give the best audio playback. If it is store bought, then I would recommend looking in the laptop manual for a physical volume control on the laptop. Maybe a fn key combo, or a switch on the side of the computer.

get external speakers and plug them in…you can go out and buy some or use normal cheap ones from a reg computer

Try looking for the volume control within the DVD playback program – this is normally independent of the volume settings within Windows.
