American Idol
One of the best watched competition shows on TV is American Idol. The show offers contestants a chance to share their musical talent. Each night, they are given a particular theme of music they need to perform. There is a panel of judges and audience members get to call in and vote. The one with the fewest points at the end of the voting period is eliminated.
The show has been on the air since 2002. American Idol tryouts are held at locations around the USA, and they get terrific results. People enjoy the opportunity to be cast as one of the people that will be part of the show. There is a great deal of talent that shows up for the tryouts.
To help the show remain fresh and appealing, American Idol often has bands or artists come on the show to help the participants. They are able to sing with them, help them identify a better stage presence, and even help them to understand the music business from their point of view.
There have been some controversies over the years with American Idol involving the vote tallies. The season Chris Daughtry was voted off, many said that they got a thank you for voting for someone else. There have been a few times when they were sure that votes had glitches and had to redo them.
Some of the people of the show have been able to get great careers started as a result of their exposure on American Idol. Even though Chris Daughtry didn’t win, his band Daughtry has been doing very well. They opened for Bon Jovi and then co-headlined their own tour. Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are other examples of great results from the show.
There are three judges on the panel of American Idol. There have been some controversies about how some of these judges treat the participants. Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson were the first judges on the show. Cowell was often deemed as being too brutal with them while Abdul wasn’t hard enough on those that needed some guidance.
In season 8, the decision was made to add a 4th judge to the panel. Since that time, there have been plenty of changes to who is judging. Among those that took part in it for a short time including Jennifer Lopez and Ellen DeGeneres. Country star Keith Urban is currently a judge, and one that fans and participants seem to really enjoy.
