The Piano is a 1993 film about a mute pianist and her daughter, set during the mid-19th century in a rainy, muddy frontier New Zealand backwater. It is a compelling examination of the wondrously strange ways in which people treat one another, the poetically eccentric accommodations they make to life’s incomprehensible cruelty and flashes of brilliant wonder.

Being John Sebastian Bach
Igudesman & Joo with John Malkovich – BEING JOHN SEBASTIAN BACH is an encore of the project “The Music Critic” premiered at Julian Rachlin & Friends festival 2010. A further extract from “The Music Critic” will be available on YouTube soon. THE MUSIC CRITIC Schumann fancies himself a “composer” while Brahms is a gift-less bastard and Debussy is simply ugly. Igudesman has created a sardonic melange of the most evil original music critiques of the last centuries many of them written about some of the greatest works of chamber music. Malkovich slips into the role of the evil music critic, who believes the music of Beethoven, Chopin, Ravel and the like to be weary and dreary, while Julian Rachlin and other great musicians beg to differ. Music by Bach, Piazzolla, Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, Ravel, Kanchelli, Prokofiev, Schumann and Igudesman. www.rachlinandfriends.com
