They just got one in my grocery store. And the video store is right next to it. So I dont know which to use. Has anyone ever used one, and is it easy? Does it require a credit card? Does it have crazy late fees if I dont return the movie on time?
late fees
What would make you choose to go to a Video Rental Store over renting online?
I want to open a video rental (well dvd, blu ray and cd) store with a difference. I am not a fan of the LOVEFILM type service as I tihnk it’s restrictive, awkward and expensive. I would like something along the lines of a store where you can buy and/or rent DVDs/Blu Ray Discs and CDs (albums) at low prices with low late fees.
I have been told that the video store is dead but i dont believe it. I would also encorporate a website into the idea of the store where you could reserve movies online and have them delivered to your front door or posted.(or you can pick them up)
A website where u stream movies for a price would be fantastic but most peoples computers are not good enough to stream movies in dvd quality and now we have blu ray i think people will start renting more for the quality of the sound and picture which you cant get from torrents or streaming.
Basically I want to know if these things like:
*drop offs to your house and or postage
*large selction of snacks in store at low prices
*dvd/bluray/cd and game rental
*online reservations and purchases
*notifications to your phone/facebook etc when a rental is due back
*special offers for good customers
*comfy seating in store so you can sit and read movie blurbs
*a computer database for CUSTOMERS to see what we have in store rather than having to ask the employees all the time
*ability to buy tickets to local gigs and albums of local bands
If these aspects would make a difference to you going to video stores rather than using a LOVEFILM type thing online…?
And anything else you wana add, feel free to rant about the things you hate about video stores too!
Thanks a lot! :D

If You Owe Blockbuster Video Rental Fees Do You Have To Pay Them Before You Can Before You Rent A Movie?
If You Owe Blockbuster Video Rental Fees Do You Have To Pay Them Before You Can Before You Rent A Movie? I’ve got a free rental coupon and I wanna use it but I know I have some late fees from like 2 years ago when I last rented from them and then they had that whole no late fees thing running and I’m not sure if you have to pay them before you can rent another movie…

Is it possible for video rental late fees to damage your credit?
Blockbuster allowed someone who was not authorized to rent on my account to rent movies(do not know who) and they returned one late. I am not missing any cards that I know of and I know that they are supposed to ask for ID when you don’t have your card, so how they rented on my account without a card(or ID)is beyond me. I now have a late fee—for a movie I did not even rent. I tried to talk to the manager of the store and she said that she couldn’t do anything(I know that’s not true) and that she would have to talk to the owner of the store and call me back. Still waiting for a call!! In fact, when I talked to her, she said that the movie had "automatically" showed up in the drop box that very night. I honestly did not rent these movies(one was returned on time) and if they had looked at my account, they would have seen that I have paid late fees before when they have been movies I have rented and they have been late. Will this late fee come back to haunt me as far as credit goes?

With the expanding accessibility of cheap DVD rentals (i.e. RedBox), what is your typical method of renting?
RedBox? I love the ability to rent a DVD for just per night, with no late fees. Need it an extra night? Just pay a dollar extra.
With Blockbuster now charging 4.99 for a DVD rental (this is standard definition, not even Blu Ray!) I’ll stick with the RedBox locations near me!
What do you do for your rentals? NetFlix? Blockbuster Online? RedBox?
Thanks for your input!

Video Store Clerk Pet Peeves?
I work in a video store, and these are some of the things that drive me absolutely INSANE!
Leaving your returned movies on the counter instead of dropping them in the drop box (reguardless of the "PLEASE USE DROP BOX" sign).Trust me, this is the fastest and easiest way for your rental to NOT get checked in, or better yet, get picked up and taken home by another customer by mistake. But then you’ll come back and b*itch to us because your movie never got checked in?!
After signing your ticket, you hold the pen out for me and refuse to set it down until I take it from you.WHY?When there is pen cup sitting right in front of you?
"Where are your new releases?" Ummm…probably along the NEW RELEASE WALL! "Oh, they’re in alphabetical order?" No,we just put them out there randomly.
NO ONE ever has late fees.We make it up.
Is it just me or do these things annoy other video clerks?Or anyone else working in customer service? What are some of your customer-related pet peeves?
Who said I have poor customer service? These are pet peeves…EVERYONE HAS THEM. I’m just asking if anyone has any similiar experiences. Why do you think I’ve venting about it here? Because I’ve got a big ole fake smile plastered on my face when I’m standing behind the counter.
