Okay, so my Grammy bought me the Sweeney Todd DVD (my favorite movie in the world, the 2-disc) anyway, my family (outer family, e.g. AUNT or UNCLE, not mom or dad) always likes to borrow movies from me cause I’ve got tons of new and old releases. My family wants to see Sweeney Todd and I cannot live without that movie for 5 months! That is how long some of ’em keep them for!
SHOULD I, OR SHOULD I NOT BUY THE 1-DISC FOR RENTALS SINCE IT’S A POPULAR MOVIE AND I HAVE A FEELING IT WILL BE OUT LONG-ENOUGH.

It’s not fair to you that they borrow your movies for that long. And I would not go out and buy another copy just so they can borrow it. Just tell them if they want to watch it (and only after you watch it again…you know you want to!) you want it back in a week. If they don’t bring it back, go collect it! Say you and your friends are going to watch it. You shouldn’t have to go through all that trouble so other people can watch YOUR movies.

One option is to make a copy of the movie and let them borrow it. You own the movie, so a copy for backup/archive purposes is ok.
The best option, if they want to rent the movie, is to rent the movie on their own. Blockbuster is a perfectly good establishment, and I hear wonderful things about Netflix.

I’d suck it up and tell them the truth… that certain movies are important to you and that they tend to keep them for unacceptable stretches of time. They’d either have to agree to keep it for up to two weeks (or whatever time limit you consider bearable) or, if they can’t agree, they’ll have to buy it for themselves.
