you had me until you mentioned Cameron as one of the “respecting filmakers” Cameron lost that after Titanic and become a business man first, then a filmaker, now all that drives him is the dollar, I mean the guy is fucking re-releasing Titanic in 3D, which also he started the fucking 3D craze, so Cameron can suck giant fucking gorilla nuts if you ask me

This is coming from a Cameron fanatic pre-Avatar

Something I thought of. When the ‘whatever’ is trying to get out of the train car, we see both the wheel turning itself and something on the other side smashing at the door. If the thing in the car has telekinesis then that means it was trying to get the door open through the “normal” way, opening it. Yet, the thing inside is still pounding on the door with the intent to break it down, why would it do that if it is going to open the door? What if there are more than one ‘things’ inside. Maybe 8?

I saw this Preview when i saw Prince of Persia (which i found was medicore..). But anyways, the preview made me go “Holy F#*@ing S#*! I want to see that! O_O; ” I missed the tagline reading it was from Abrams..i cant believe i didn’t come to that conclusion since the style was so obvious. *hits head* Yes..this is on my “to see” list…

hahah i found that out AFTER I posted my comment :P
btw, nice video like always! I think its an alien creature or something, because the possibility of ‘it’ being like a little child doesn’t seem that ‘realistic’, JJ announced that this movie is his inspiration from Steven Spilberg’s 70/80’s movies and the title ‘Super 8’ is the name of the video camera that is used in this film, its hand-held movie, like clover field, just letting you know :D

I think you are giving too much credit to Abrams, he’s as a story teller but as filmmaker he’s not as impressive or talented as the other directors you mentioned, he didn’t directed all of the material he created, for example he can’t be compared with Spielberg, Jackson, the Coen bros or even Nolan as an actual filmmaker being part of the same generation,

Wait… you got all this from a teaser trailer? I’m sorry but you overanalyze and jump to conclusions too quickly.

this movie’s plot so far is the same thing i have seen for countless science fiction movies. “they were transporting a creature and something goes wrong and it escapes, oh noes !” sorry jj, but you gotta do better than that to impress me

  14. moviepreviewcritic says

    July 8, 2010 at 4:57 pm

@DynamicJul I just apply dramatic story structure. There’s only so many places a story can go, and based on the images in this preview and JJs past creative process my conclusions seem the most logical – to me at least :)
This is the first time I’ve put a preview review out so early (over a year before the movie comes out) so I’m looking forward to the answers and how close I got. Take care and LLGM!

I was starting to feel MPC was slowing down with his videos….wasnt he suppose to do a live (with his face) review thing he talked about earlier?

Hey MPC, I think you’re great, but putting J.J Abrams in the same bracket as Spielberg or Peter Jackson is surely madness. He hasn’t made a single surefire classic movie yet. An average one in my opinion with Star Trek, and his TV has been very polarizing. Surely he’s not in the same league as the main players.

@kazuya246 what movies did that? just curious as far as I can remember I haven’t seen any please give references.

I think that you’re probably within the ballpark of what the movie is about, but I also think you’re a bit off in terms of quality. There’s a lot of CGI in that one teaser and to me it looks like they’re already trying to use big explosions to bring in crowds. Or at least make crowds look it up on the internet, overhype it when new trailers come out, and then drag their friends to go see it. I want to wait and see, but faith runs not high in my veins.

Hey MPC did you see the other clue during the trailer?? The camera reals a paper saying “scariest thing I ever saw” did you catch that???

I just have to say your so full of info as always. If you don`t write for a movie magazine you 100% should. Someone should hire you. The teaser to Super 8 is epic too.
