I recorded my video with a tape instead of the memory card. I installed the program that came with the video camera. I plugged the USB cable into the computer, but nothing happened. The computer didn’t detect the USB. I want to edit my video with Windows Movie Maker. Can I do this with a tape?

You can use Windows Movie Maker or other video editing software. Tape or card does not matter. Here’s the process:
. Connect the camcorder to the computer with the USB cable. Turn on the camcorder and put it in playback mode. Rewind to the beginning of your video and then put in Play (Standby) mode.
. Launch Windows Movie Maker and start the Capture Video function. WMM will send a command to the camera to start playing and copying (capturing) the video.
. Complete other steps in your project and save it.
If it does not start, look in My Computer and see if the camcorder shows as a removable drive. If not, you may have to reinstall the software.
Good Luck

Trying going to "My Computer," and look for the video that you’re searching for manually. Maybe you’ll find the video in that manner.
I guess you could try to do this with a tape, but the results probably wouldn’t be different, in my opinion.

Assuming you’ve got a MiniDV camcorder, you need to use a firewire connection to capture your video. The USB connection is for stills, though it should have been detected!
