I know some DVDs won’t allow you to copy a DVD movie over to another hard drive. But, ppl have copied movies to external hard drives, is this b/c they had already downloaded them on their computer from the net? Thanks

When the DVD movie you want to copy is copy-protected, you need a DVD ripper to bypass the protection. The DVD ripper can copy the movie straight to your external hard drive.
Have fun.

You can use aimersoft dvd ripper, it is able to rip dvds to computer in 1:1. it is also capable to save dvd to computer in regular video format. it can bypass all kind of dvd copyright protection schemes, so it is able to rip copyright protected dvd movies.
Not like some ordinary DVD rippers, it will not break the video into pieces, it will join all DVD titles and chapters and make them as one standalone video file, thus you can play it in windows media player.
You can download it here
Here is a guide about how to use it.
