NYC Rental agents use a company called Fidelity Information Corp to view tenant credit and criminal history? I want to apply for rental housing and have no previous rental history ( fortunate to have always owned home since out of college) but would like to see the information? Rental agent states it cannot release even though technically I will pay for it?

There are potential liability issues at play when an interested party is making a decision of acceptance or denial based upon information in such a report. This is a very common dilemma in HR departments through out the country. Fidelity doesn’t offer their services to prospective tenants, but to see what types of information is on the report check out their website.
The report is nothing but a collective credit report, criminal background check and database of delinquent tenants. Therefor if you have never had rent to pay, you wouldn’t be a delinquent tenant. And, if you aren’t on the sex offender registry or have a bench warrant for you in effect, and have good credit you have nothing to worry about .

Good answer above. I just wanted to add that even without rental history, if you have a job that will support the amount of rent you will need to pay, and have the cash for all the move-in costs and make it obvious you intend to pay the rent and be a positive tenant, pretty much ANY landlord will want to rent to you.
No rental history beats bad rental history!
