Greetings! I am interested in knowing what kind of devices does robbers use to detect or scan for electronic, such as laptop computers or cameras, devices in motor vehicles.
I am asking because my brother and his wife were both victims of theft recently and I am curious about the subject.
I would also like to know if there is a device that can prevent thieves from detecting devices in motor vehicles.
Thanks in advance for your help.

They use their EYES! Hello, there was just this big story on the local news about how people were shocked that all their stuff got stolen out of their unlocked cars. with their radar detectors and GPS units on their windshield. HELLO!!??? take that stuff out and it wont get stolen. The extreme heat and cold is bad enough on all that stuff anyways. Why in the world would you leave something expensive in you r car? It only takes a window smashed in and an alarm just means do it fast before someone makes it outside…. DON’T LEAVE VALUABLES IN YOUR CAR!!!! if you live in a nice neighborhood you are even more at risk.
If i was going to break into cars, I would not go to the ghetto they are poor and don’t have nice things. I would go to the nicest neighborhood i could find and get the good stuff!!!

a bug detector will show any transmitting devices, but they need to be transmitting or on stand-by, phones, lappies, satnav’s, trackers all transmit when there on. how to stop it, switch the transmitters off.

Most of the time there are give aways. Like leaving the electronic devices in plain sight. A bag that looks like a laptop bag on the rear floor is a tempting target. A camera bag also shows there may be a camera in the car as well.
When it comes to GPS units most people use the mount that is suctioned cupped to the windshield since it is so simple to use. They leave the mount in place indicating there is a GPS in the car someplace. Also there is a tell tail ring on the windshield from the suction cup if the mount is put away.
No. the thieves don’t use anything sophisticated. Just the detectors god gave them, called eyes. They watch and look for clues to improve their chances of success.

starjon is right. and if you have the very latest equipment which would be expensive the devices would have to be powered up or at least have a stand by current passing through them to be detected. but the chances are if they have that kind of euipment they would be breaking into more then just cars ! like others have said it the signs that are left behind from these electronic devices that they would pick up on
