The whole point of the book (and the movie) is Briony. Yes, the romance is nice. But it’s about Briony’s inner conflict. It’s scary because I think we can all put ourselves in Briony’s shoes. Could you imagine what it would be like to be haunted by something you did as a child? It forces you to see yourself as Briony and ask yourself questions. Especially when Robbie asks her “How old does one have to be to tell right from wrong?” It’s haunting.

I also love the way that it makes you question God and fate. You begin to question the idea in a lot of Greek and Roman mythology, as well as in other works, that fate is responsible for your actions. Briony acted as “God” while writing her version of the story. But at the same time, you would want to blame someone else if you were in that situation. You’d want to beg God or a higher power to relieve you of the terrible guilt.

@laura123roxx The second piece is ‘Breathing Space’ by X-Ray Dog and the third is ‘The Vision’ by X-Ray Dog as well – X-Ray Dog is a kind of company that composes ‘epic’ music for film trailers :)

Good movie, was surprised by the ending. I’m sure I’m not the only one who thought Keira Knightly looked too skinny in the move. You can see her bones!

@Deicidead Read the book, she wanted far too much control over peoples’ lives. She wanted reality to be in her control.
mstacgnolsays
The acting was superb. The film was very eye-pleasing. The scenes, costumes, and lines were all placed very deliberately to make a memorable film. And I love Keira Knightly and James McAvoy. Some of my favorite actors in the acting industry. =)

Can anybody please tell me where this music is from? It sounds familliar.

@Deicidead There’s not a clear line over whether she made a mistake or not. It’s possible that she did think Robbie was a sex maniac; it’s also possible that she knew the truth and lied to the police. She told her friend later on that she had a crush on Robbie when she was around this age, and seeing him with Cecelia couldn’t have helped her jealousy. Also, she’s a writer by nature, and seeing Paul Marshall (and she did see him) raping Lola didn’t fit into the story she had in her mind.

@millard27 It’s a song from X Ray Dog called “The Vision”
