I recently discovered my DL was suspended for an unpaid license plate ticket. I paid it today and had it unsuspended. I am traveling to the east coast to visit family with my kids, and I don’t trust that the DMV will get the release processed fast enough before I pick up my rental car. I don’t want be a crossed the country and stuck with my kids in and airport.

Dave J says
Not usually. In many states a rental place isn’t even
allowed to do such a check. As long as your license
is valid on the face, and you provide your credit card,
and other needed info, that is all that is required of
you.
Also, states have everything computerized today.
The biggest delay might be that some states must
wait until the evening hours to update their system.
Everything is updated by the following day.
