my last two dvd players used fiber optic cable that connected to my surround sound system, which by the way is not the newest system but still work fine.
well i need a new dvd player and i have trouble finding a new one that has fiber optic cables. so i was wondering do they even do that anymore?

Both my BluRay and HD DVD players offer optical out.
I believe Radio Shack has an adapter to convert from optical to coaxial or vice versa.

If your AV receiver has coax input, use it. S/pdif is a digital signal. It does not matter much whether it is coax or optical. The distance is too short and the bits either go or not go!
