For years I have loathed and mocked the idea of Netflix, then recently decided it might be a great deal – BECAUSE of the watch-now streaming to our WII – but now I’m thinking I may have been right after all.
I would not mind some input from YA folks please! – on what to do, since it’s pretty hard to get a good sense of what’s available on Netflix versus what you want. (without spending 6 months worth of /mo. to get the ‘experience’ and then quit, as it seems so many have).
Ok the reason I thought Netflix was so dumb is that movie-watching is, for most of us, a pretty impulse driven thing. I feel like watching a movie today, so I go and rent one. Blockbuster, Hollywood V, and Redbox all adequately meet that need. If I want to pay less for a little smaller selection, I use Redbox. If I want to go bankrupt, I use Blockbuster. If I want a good, balanced deal, I use Hollywoo….Oh wait, they’re closing all their stores. CR@P !!
To me the idea of Netflix was as stupid as saying, I feel like eating a cheeseburger, so I’ll order one now and it will be mailed to me – albeit, surprisingly fast – and 1 or 2 days later, I’ll eat a cheeseburger. Yay!!! Then I’ll have to mail back my wrapper real quick before I can fulfill my next urge in a very, very delayed way….
Then we got a WII, and I already had a wireless connection in my home, so I thought WHOA – if I can watch Netflix stuff instantly anytime (even if they were smart and had a way so you could only watch them one time, which would solve their licensing problem, DUH) – that would be a NO brainer! Pick up the remote and watch a movie.
Forget .99/mo, I and most people I know would pay 3 times that much, if the deal was really what it seemed.
Now I’m in my first Netflix month, and I’m realizing the selection of new releases is like 5 movies. You go to their website to browse New to Watch Instantly, and after paging through pretty much the first page, you’re down to movies that came out 3 years ago.
Does this mean they add about 10 movies a year??? Has it occurred to them how dumb this is? Does anyone watch Netflix watch-instantly for anything other than old / foreign movies? I’m like most people I’ve watched most of the "OLD" movies I want, pretty much I rent things as they are released on DVD – or I’d like to.
the HV in my area closed down, and since blockbuster went nuts with their minimum rental, I’m running out of good options.
Is there an option like Netflix watch-now that I’m missing? I already have a WII, wireless connection, and a willingness to spend as much as -/mo.
Is there any option for me?????????? Has anyone else been equally frustrated by the seemingly-great solution of Netflix, only to find out it is complete crap?
Has anyone used another service to find out it is worth the money? If so what? how much & what software is required?
Hmm, I think the first Oro answer might not have actually read my question.
Netflix has almost NO newer movies to watch instantly – the watch instantly was the only thing valuable about the entire company.
And more details, added after the 2nd answer was posted.
OMG, is NOBODY reading my question correctly. I clearly stated that my issue with Netflix is precisely because the "Watch Now", or "Watch Instantly" feature is so horrible.
Yes I’m familiar with it – but it has virtually nothing in it that came out in the past year.

Maybe on the Wii things are different(I don’t use a Wii, at least for film viewing), but are you not aware of all the "Watch Instantly" movies on Netflix?
I can sort of see where you’re coming from with the "impulse viewing" thing, but that’s not what I personally have Netflix for. If I want a new movie, I’ll just go to the rental place to get it. I have Netflix for the unequaled library of films they have available. A lot of the films most rental places don’t carry, or have the room to carry them.
With hundereds of thousands of films made, I’d be a fool to say that I’ve watched all of "old" movies I want to. I hear about a movie that I’ve never viewed before that peaks my interest almost every day……..and I’ve seen more than my fair share of movies!!!

well , personally if you think about it, Netflix ( which i have) gives you ANY movie you want. On an occasion lets say the avg. cost for a movie in theatres is $7.00. FOR 1 MOVIE. Then with 3 dollars mor, you can watch as many movies as you Want! personally, its awesome

A good alternative to netflix is blockbuster online.
Blockbuster has a 28 day window on a lot of new releases, which means they get them before netflix&redbox. So u always have plenty of new releases.
If u like getting movies on impulse u can also trade in ur online mailers in-store for free rentals.
On top of that u can also get games and blurays delivered at no extra charge.
All in all its a good service. And I would definitely recommend it.
For a free 2-week trial..
1. go to http://www.blockbuster.com\laptop
2. Scroll down to the very bottom and click on the 2 very small dots in the left-hand corner
3. Type "48178" as the store number. And "bbonline" as the password
4. Then just go through the sign up process.
If u follow these steps not only will u get a 2-wk free trial but a printable coupon as well.

Maybe instead of the diatribe, you could have kept it simple and just asked for good sites with new movies that you can watch instantly from your Wii.
All three of the previous users have answered what you have asked in one way or another, you just don’t like their answers.
